the Neroberg
Wiesbaden's local mountain, the Neroberg, is a popular excursion destination and for really good reasons: There are so many attractions and activities on offer here that a visit can easily fill a whole day. It all starts with the ride to the top on the Nerobergbahn: the sun-yellow, nostalgic carriages are powered by water and transport you to the top in just a few minutes.
The Opelbad, Château Nero, Impro-Sommer, Monopterus, Russian Orthodox Church and climbing forest await you there.
Kurhaus Wiesbaden
The Kurhaus is Wiesbaden's jewel. It sits magnificently enthroned on Wilhelmstraße. With its various halls and salons, it is a regular venue for concerts, balls, receptions and conferences.
A walk through the foyer alone is worthwhile: under the huge glass dome, surrounded by statues, paintings and marble, you will get a lasting impression of what awaits you in the halls.

Your exploration tour of Wiesbaden should definitely start on Schlossplatz at the market fountain. From here, you can see the City Palace, the seat of the Hessian State Parliament, the Market Church and the old and new town halls at a glance.
The Schlossplatz and the Dern'schen grounds behind the new town hall are the venue for major festivals throughout the year, such as the Rheingau Wine Week or the Sternschnuppenmarkt, and above all the weekly market with over 100 stalls every Wednesday and Saturday.
St. Martin’s Cathedral
The Mainz Cathedral was built between 975 and 1009 CE. For such an old church, I’m sure it comes as no surprise to hear that it’s been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries. During the Middle Ages, the Mainz Cathedral was a big deal.
The Archbishop of Mainz had the sole right to crown German Monarchs, and six monarchs were crowned at this very place.The Late Gothic cloisters are a main feature of the cathedral, as are the massive tombs of the archbishops.
Gutenberg Museum
Bookworms will love the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz! This compact museum walks you through the history of books and printing, with an emphasis on Johannes Gutenberg’s legacy and work.
The star attraction of the museum are the two original Gutenberg bibles, which are sealed inside a massive vault and watched by a security guard. The museum is primarily a collection of old books, manuscripts, and printing presses — all of which were lovely to look at, but the accompanying text was quite dry to read (and it was all in German!). But the Gutenberg Bibles … they are works of art in every sense of the word!
Old Town
The Old Town (Altstadt) is hands down one of the BEST things to see in Mainz, Germany. The Mainz Old Town is sadly teeny tiny — it’s just one street with a small square — but it’s one of the prettiest old towns that I’ve visited! If you like half-timbered houses, Mainz will be your new favorite city.
The Kirschgarten is a gorgeous square where the oldest half-timbered house in Mainz is located. It dates back to the 15th century! Unfortunately you can’t go inside as it’s now a dentist’s office.
